You then need to report the dog bite to the local police and animal control office.

Pennsylvania follows “strict liability” in regard to dog ownership. Strict liability means that the dog’s owner is responsible for any injury caused by their dog. If the dog has never bitten someone before, the injuries that result can be classified in 2 ways: severe or non-severe. A severe injury is defined as an injury that results in broken bones or disfiguring lacerations that require sutures or cosmetic surgery. If the bite is deemed to be severe than the victim can file a claim for medical expenses, legal damages, and other losses (emotional pain, etc.). If the bite is deemed to be non-severe, the victim can still file a claim however they are limited to recovery of medical expenses only.
